One typo noticed … ‘Tenor, plectrun and other’. I’m guessing you mean ‘plectrum’?
Thanks for that. Wrist duly rapped and typo corrected.
Remember folks ” The man that never made a mistake never made anything ”
No idea who I am quoting , but to me it makes sense.
Thanks to whoever !
Hi i my name is Andy i play banjo, guitar and drums. Just new here so a little bit shy…Learned my banjo watching Patrick Costello videos. Is there similar video lessons on this web site?
Hi Andy, and welcome. No need to be shy mate – get stuck in.
We have a lot of Patricks lessons stashed away that you can access, and I’m sure that the folks here can aim you in the right direction for more,
Hope you enjoy our company
Pete
thanks Ned already feel most welcome and settling in nicely..
Delighted to have you with us Andy!
Please feel free to join in, or kick us in a new direction.
Anything goes, as long as it’s friendly.
Pete aka ned
Hi Andy
LOADS of Patricks old stuff is on http://www.archive.org mostly it’s audio only, but their are some videos too.
Just go their and run a search for his name, you’ll find oodles.
Danny
thanks Danny. Did what you suggested brilliant! you are right tons of stuff there many thanks..
I would appreciate advice on purchasing and setting-up a suitable camera and sound, in order to experiment with arrangements and new tunes. Most efforts I have viewed , after gigs, have been on the rough side sound wise. However I note that most of the productions posted on the UK FOLKIES site are excellent.

Hi there I’m still knocking around after being in and out and lurking about over the years. Still can’t play this banjo but still love evrything about it, so what the hey! Time is the issue and routines have been shattered, but life is good so can’t gripe.
Loving the new site and intend to keep a more obvious eye out for what’s happening.
Cheers!
Thanks a lot mate, one day we might both get the hang of this tambourine on a stick ay?
Danny
Hello I’m new so please forgive me if this is posted in the wrong spot. I’m based in the North East of England and my nom de banjeu is Harry Knibbs. I play quite a few instruments and know a lot of old songs although I’m very much an amateur. To prove it, this is me on Uke doing an old Tom Ashley number: http://soundcloud.com/harryknibbs/walking-boss
Look forward to
meeting you all.
Sorry it took ages to post your stuff Harry, but I am lousy with computers. I did get help, and here you are. Thanks Dan! Dunno why it didn’t work for me though!
Anyway – Welcome to you, and all our new members.
Feel free to join in with anything you like, the more input we get the better the site gets. It matters not if you are talented, or, like me, just an appreciative audience.
Best place to start would be General Chat, or Forum Press unless a specific catagory catches your eye.
Hope you enjoy our company.
Pete
Hi all , my name is Georgette , and im on here after comming across the forum on the internet . I am a very very new 23 year old singer / songwriter in leeds and im hoping that all you experinced folkies will direct me with your wealth of experince !
I’ve been playing guitar for 4 months , and as you can guess that isnt really long enough to sound any good ! fortunatly i have two guitarist that acompany me who are fab !
I very new on the scene , like in the last two months ! – but so far i have achevied , a live stream podcast interview- in the area finals of a national competition ( prize £30.000 investment and a record deal) – 2 radio acoustic sessions – another 3 booked for next year , a acoustic tour in leeds in march and ive just recorded my debut E.P – plus the gigs im doing too … ive been a busy bee !!!
I was brought up on Jazz and spent every childhood holiday at Broadstairs Folk Festival right up until the age of 16 – and i think thats has influenced me.
Since im a real newbie to all this theres loads of things im unsure of and im hoping to get some advice x
Georgie .
Hi,
Name is Paul. Clawhammer Banjo player living in Suffolk. Been thrashing (or frailing) indoors for a while now. Just venturing out into the local Folk scene. There are armies of melodians out there.
Been watching the old UKFolkies site since July thinking: “it all seems very quiet” Then I saw the link to here. Is there a 101 on this site? What is a ForumPress? I find Facebook confusing and Twitter (old I guess). I’d be grateful for an easy in to this site.
Paul
One for our techno dudes methinks !
Had a similar request from TB1910 by email.
What’s the easy way to bung something up guys ?
Or find something, cos I have missed stuff now and then ( But I am thick )
Cheers
Yes, I seem to be signed up to the blog, but am not sure whether I can post to the blog or not, haven’t tried very hard. But seem to be successfully on the forum. Thanks, Gill
UK folkies are almost impossible to locate on the web. Why did you change from main Web Menue? Is it part of a plot to get rid of us?Or is it you do not wish the “strings and things” readership to reach 460 ?.Or is it this steam powered methuseleah bed-top ,just don’t like you ?Go on UK Folkies tell your public the secret.
Hi Tony.
Delighted to see that you survived the move to W Sussex.
I am a complete dunce with computers, so can’t really help you on this one.
I did however “google ” us, and we were right there at the top of the list, looks like we need someone intelligent to get us noticed more ( Any volunteers ? )
Thanks for sticking with us.
Pete
Hi All,
Just learning to frail, with the help of Costello Jr and Sr
Patrick mentioned you in one of his (many) videos, so I thought I’d wander along and say hi
John
Hi John.
Welcome to the gang, hope you enjoy it here. Feel free to join in any way that takes your fancy.
The Pats are a very good choice to learn from, and really nice guys too.
Cheers Pete
I have a music Podcast and am looking for Bands Artists/Musicians to feature. If you are interested and have a demo please email halloweenbobby@hotmail.com

Hi Chris.
